Body Do-Able

Rajshree Thakur goes on vacation after finding a body double

By Ashwini Deshmukh

Rajshree Thakur

Sandhya Pujari

After four long years working for Saat Phere, lead actress Rajshree Thakur is finally taking some well deserved time off. With the sanctioning of her vacation, arose the problem of continuing the shoot. Since a daily soap cannot possibly carry the story further without its protagonist, Rajshree found a solution.

While she is away, a sales co-ordinator named Sandhya Pujari will play her body double. A source said, “Though the track of the serial was changed and a twenty year leap was incorporated, Rajshree was still needed to be around for a couple of shots. This would ensure that the track moved forward smoothly. That’s when Rajshree came up with this idea. The makers were stunned by how similar Sandhya looked to Rajshree. Sandhya was immediately taken on board to fill in the former’s absence.”

Sandhya often used to be told that she looked very similar to Rajshree. Once when Rajshree was shooting close to Sandhya’s office, Sandhya went over to meet her.

Sandhya, the look-alike confirmed, “Yes, I was approached to play Saloni’s character while Rajshree is away. I have been informed that I’ll have to start shooting soon. This will be my very first time in front of the camera. I’ve set out to try something new. Now let’s see how it goes.”

Dil ka doctor:Karan Grover

youaskedforit

Dil ka doctor

TV hottie, Karan Grover, many a young girls’ heart-throb Dr Armaan, in an informal chat

By Sonali Shah

What is Dr Armaan Mallik going to do next?

I seriously don’t know... Dill Mill Gayye is a daily soap man! Armaan’s journey with Riddhima (Sukriti Khandpal) will of course, continue. But yeah, no one’s dying or coming back to life or anything of that sort.

Which contestants on Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa do you feel perform better than you?

Oh the women are all so much better. They are totally comfortable with their steps. What they learn in one hour takes me five. Gauhar Khan, Hard Kaur and Parul Chauhan are great dancers.

Do you believe you’ll break the trend of only female dancers winning Jhalak…?

I don’t know about that, but I’m definitely in the process of breaking my own mental block. I’m uncomfortable with dancing and Jhalak is helping me overcome that. Right now, I’m happy to win the expectations of the audience and my choreographer, Nicole Alvares.

Your Salman Khan imitation went all the way in a recent episode, complete with removing your shirt. Are you inspired by him in real life?

No, not really. I love his films, but I’m not inspired by him. He’s fun, that’s it. But yes, he’s got to be credited for getting good physiques into Indian cinema.

We’ve seen you act and dance. Are we going to hear you sing now?

Sing? No. But, I used to be the vocalist of my band in school. We played Alt Rock, numbers by Creed, Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, and similar stuff. But that’s not what the Indian audience wants. So, no singing for me.

Are you planning to progress to the silver screen?

(Smiles) Yes, I have signed a film. It is a romantic comedy, which has quite become my forte now. Along with me there’s one other actor and two actresses. They’re all fresh faces for cinema. It’s Vivek Mushran’s story and he’ll also be directing the film. My character is like Armaan, but has more of Karan in it. We will start the shoot in May.

What’s marriage to Shraddha Nigam like? Any plans of starting a family soon?

Starting a family is an eventuality. We haven’t decided on the ‘when’ bit yet, but yes, it will happen soon. And married life is fun man… I don’t know why people crack so many jokes about it. Besides, married life means good food.

Your next Jhalak performance is on…

I’m busy rehearsing Baawre from Luck By Chance, so watch out for that.

Saath Pher Rajshree Thakur

Cut to fit...

Saath Phere to change story track and leap by 20 years to accommodate Rajshree Thakur’s vacation

Rajshree Thakur

The lead actress of Saat Phere, Rajshree Thakur has the soap’s production house wound around her little finger. When she was denied a vacation, she threatened to leave the show. Later, when her vacation was approved, the script had to be turned around to explain her absence.

Our source said, “Rajshree has been demanding a vacation for a long time. Months of pleading didn’t yield anything, so she threatened to leave the show. The producers couldn’t let her quit as the lead actor Shard Kelkar is on the verge of bidding farewell. So they allowed Rajshree to take an entire month off in May. This situation put the producers in a spot. They had to consider Rajshree’s demand and still continue the show.”

As a compromise, the frazzled production house twisted the script, “In order to justify her absence, her character Saloni, will be sent to jail and the soap will also take a twenty year leap. Her two daughters will grow up and take centre stage. The director has already started searching for new faces to fit the bill of the two actors who will play the pivotal roles after the leap.”

Explaining her stand Rajshree said, “I have been waiting for a break desperately. I have been working continuously since Saat Phere’s first episode. That is almost four years, except ten days I took for my wedding two years ago. Now, the length of my holiday will depend on the altered storyline.”

Vote de India

Vote de India

Reality show contestant Shilpa Shukla cashes in on Shah Rukh Khan to woo voters for her

By Vickey Lalwani

Binidiya Naik and Shah Rukh Khan

Shilpa Shukla, who gained popularity as Binidiya Naik of Chak De! India has roped in one of Bollywood’s biggest star to woo audiences to vote for her in Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa. Who wouldn’t vote for Shilpa if Shah Rukh Khan appealed to them? Shilpa very smartly got her sources to inform her of Shah Rukh’s whereabouts and then set out for the location. Shah Rukh, she found out, was shooting at a suburban hotel for an ad. So Shilpa, fully prepared with her television crew to record his vote-appeal, promptly landed there.

Says Shilpa, “Maine Shah Rukh ke saath film ki hai… Itna toh mera haq banta hai. (I have done a film with Shah Rukh… I have the right for at least this much.) So I thought of taking his support. But yes, I must admit, initially bahut dar lag raha tha.”

Unaware of how SRK would react she decided it was wise to ask the crew to wait outside till she managed to obtain Shah Rukh’s assent. So did Shah Rukh recognise her? “Recognise?” she asks taken aback. “Indeed! He’s such a sweet guy. He not only recognised me but also welcomed me warmly. I was apprehensive to start a conversation with him, but once we got talking, we chatted for nearly two hours.”

And so the deed was done.

Unlike any other show seen on television, SAB stretches itself to the very edge in the comedy genre and ensures maximum entertainment for the entire family.”

Sprinkled with a lot of craziness, the Don family takes its viewers on a roller coaster ride with each of their peculiar habits successively converting into an exasperating laughter riot. So don’t forget to catch all the madness starting March 16, 2009 at 9:30 pm only on SAB

Gunwaale Dulhaniyan Le Jaayenge Character Sketches:

Daddyji (Sudhir Pandey) - Once a dreaded gangster and don, Daddyji is currently living a retired life and spends his time watching his favorite T.V. soap, titled ‘Saas Bahu Ki Lambi Kahani’. He is highly respected by his family members and the mafia community. The family business still runs on ‘his’ name, which is currently being handled by his eldest son, affectionately called ‘Bhaiji’ by everyone. Daddyji suffers from constant memory loss and can forget anything or sometimes even everything, anywhere and everywhere. In order to remind him of everything that he might forget, he has appointed a helper who is accessible 24 x 7. He is aptly called ‘Reminder’.

Reminder (Pankaj Titoria) - The ‘man in black’ and as the name suggests, is Daddyji’s shadow and is supposed to remind Daddyji about everything that he constantly forgets. Smartly dressed in black, he is always caught in a cross fire of what Daddyji manages to remember and what he does not. Daddyji keeps slapping him for every little mistake that he commits or even otherwise!

Bhaiji (Vijay Kashyap) - Bhaiji is Daddyji’s eldest son and is currently looking after Daddyji’s established empire along with his son ‘Tiger’. A miser by nature, he goes to the extent of calculating the cost of every bullet being fired during gang operations. Daddyji absolutely dislikes this trait of his and keeps scolding him. Otherwise, he is a loving husband and father and Daddyji’s ever obedient son.

Shanti (Himani Shivpuri) - Bhaiji’s wife, Shanti, is not very literate but is extremely devoted to her family and her husband. She runs the household on her whims and fancies and enjoys everyone’s respect especially that of Chandy - Bhaiji’s sister. On the lookout for a good match for her son ‘Tiger’, she always fantasizes about troubling her daughter-in-law like the others in her community do.

Chandy (Sushmita Mukherjee) - Chandy is Daddyji’s married daughter, who still lives in Daddyji’s bungalow. The reason for this is because her husband ‘Chandra Prakash’ is always in jail. He is the only person who gets caught by the police every time and Daddyji’s consignment is apprehended. Chandy is very close to Shanti and almost worships her. She has completed her 10th grade making her the most literate in the entire family. She never fails to flaunt her terribly wrong English language skills at every given moment.

Tiger (Abeer Chaudhary) – Tiger, Bhaiji and Shanti’s son is the obvious successor of Daddyji’s ‘gigantic empire’. He is an aspiring gang lord whose overall appearance is fairly don-like but is actually is quite a duffer. He is always the front man braving bullets in police chases, kidnappings and shootouts, etc which definitely doesn’t stop him from romancing his girl friend ‘Lovely’.

Lovely (Shruti Vyas) - Lovely is the daughter of a bank manager and is Tiger’s current girl friend. She absolutely adores adventure and is enamored with Tiger’s dangerous and daring life-style. She is all set to fight a firm battle with her parents in order to be with her beloved boyfriend whom she eventually wants to marry and becomes the bahu of Daddyji’s household.

Baby (Rinku Worah) - Baby is Tiger’s sister. She is thoroughly fascinated with Bollywood and her current love is ‘Kaun Abraham’. She hates his real life girlfriend ‘Natasha Basu’. The entire family, particularly Shanti, is very worried about getting Baby a reality check and to find her a real time love – an actual don, a criminal of the highest pedigree who can finally make the family proud.

Chandra Prakash – Chandra Prakash plays the role of Chandy’s husband. A one-time physics professor, he now has a full time job of going to jail whenever Daddyji’s illegal consignments get caught. As a result, he spends most of his time in jail and Chandy gets a regular compensation in return for this.

Bompy (Fardeen Sheikh) - Bompy is Chandy and Chandra Prakash’s son. He is a jovial kid and is brilliant in studies. Chandy is very keen that he follows the footsteps of the family and grows up to be an able gangster. His academic excellence is a cause of great concern for the family. For corrective action, the family has hired ‘Kallu Mama’ who is the master of ‘criminology’ and is hired by the family to impart the ‘right’ skills to young Bompy.

Kallu Mamma (Deepak Sinha) - Kallu Mama was once a faithful gangster of Daddyji’s gang. He now gives tuitions to young aspiring gangsters. Daddyji’s gang has many eminent members who have been trained in criminology under the strict scrutiny of the famous Kallu mama, including the don in the making – Tiger. He is later employed to take Bompy- Chandy’s sons’ tuitions and train him to become a competent criminal.

Mandodari (Vishakha Subedar) - Mandodari has been the maid in Daddyji’s household for quiet some time and currently heads the army of the support staff. Mandodari loves her husband and she is so possessive about him that she keeps beating him black and blue so that he doesn’t run away with another woman! Inspite of this, he always manages to flee from her clutches. Unfortunately for him, she always manages to bring him back with the help of Bhaiji’s goons.

Chapter (Sanam Kumar) & Mental (A. R. Rama) – These two characters are the henchman of the gang. ‘Chapter’ is smart but cowardly whereas ‘Mental’ is brave but dumb.

Lovely’s dad (Rajesh Puri) (Banker) – Lovely’s father is a Bank Manager.
